we spent most of our ny weekend on our feet, wandering around the neighborhoods (best way to see a city). and eating.
we started our saturday morning with a measly 60+ block hike from the met to the ace hotel for some stumptown coffee. the hotel was every bit as as dark and trendy as we had dreamed

*thank god for toms!

i FINALLY made it to gettysburg, the final feather in my colonial cap. we toured the 18 mile scenic route that winds around the massive battlefield, stopping along the way to snap some photogs,  soak in the epic-ness of the scenery, and learn a few history lessons. of course, i sniffed out a band of ragtag reenactors, a confederate regiment from north carolina camped out before the battle *who referred to us as 'you yankees'  post-tour, we scoped out some 'authentic' eats at an 18th century tavern in the town of gettysburg, mapping out my next visit...

*i still dont get the hawaiian pizza thing

we drove out to westminster for a country getaway weekend chez the armitage casa, one of those rolling-green-hills towns where everyone waves at you and people own (multiple) horses. as much as i love my city living, i never pass up homemade food or quality cuddle time with benito. and of course no trip to westminster is complete without a trip to baughers for the best ice cream this side of the mason dixon.

p.o.v. views of the white house and washington monument, swanky w hotel vibe, overpriced cocktails, heat lightning blazing in the distance. the quintessential dc happy hour experience
