with emily in town for the weekend, we decided to shake things up from our normal dc routine and venture out into the boonies of virginia for some wine tasting. we hopped in our red rental mini cooper and drove out to prince michel winery, stocked with angry bird road snacks and nowhere near enough water. around 15 wine tastings deep i was definitely feeling the sugar high from one too many sweet wine pours. post palate cleansing bellinis, sangria, and fist fulls of oyster crackers, we brought our birds, nuts and grapes into the vineyard for a wee picnic before scrambling back to the car before the torrential downpour.

a grey sunday usually calls for coffee. en route to big bear to do some work (allie) and read (me), we wandered through the neighborhood farmers market to stock up on samples before settling into our nook. i splurged on bb's farmers market buffet lunch (worth it!) and downsized my regular soy latte to a regular cup of coffee-black (meh). best way to spend a gloomy afternoon.

other sunday highlights: spotting the lead singer of local dc band u.s. royalty across the cafe + haircut + hosting a family friend on her way to her college orientation at UMD. oh, the memories
